Sounds
What makes a language hard is often not its grammar but the sounds your own language does not have. This mode takes them one at a time.
How it works
- Hear it first — the sound alone and inside a minimal pair ("think" / "sink": two words that differ by one sound).
- What your mouth does — where the tongue goes, where the air comes from, written out.
- Then say it — and see which word was actually heard.
Content depends on the language pair
A Turkish speaker learning English finds 8 sound contrasts and 23 minimal pairs: th (think), th (this), w versus v, final ng, short i versus long i, the vowel between a and e, initial consonant clusters, and final voiced consonants.
